On the 17th day of March 2023 around 2:15pm during the canonical erection of the Catholic Diocese of Aguleri, the establishment of the Pioneer Minor Seminary of Aguleri Diocese was announced as St. Paul's Seminary by His Lordship, Most Rev. Denis Chidi Isizoh (The Pioneer Bishop of Aguleri Diocese) who found it necessary to mark the Centenary celebration of Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu by retaining the original name and the site of the Seminary, St. Paul's Seminary which started then in 1924 in the present day Aguleri Diocese at Igbariam.
The realisation of the Pioneer Minor Seminary drew closer when the Pioneer Rector, Very Rev. Fr. Hilary Nweke was announced at the same day of the canonical erection by Bishop Denis Chidi Isizoh who also made a remarkable revelation that the Seminary will start in September, 2023 (The same year of the erection of Aguleri Diocese). People shouted in jubilation at the hearing of the commencement of the Seminary immediately. Glory to God!
On 6th May 2023, the first entrance exam of the Pioneer Seminary, St. Paul's Seminary was taken. The population who took the exam clocked 395 boys. After the entrance, 187 successful boys were invited to undergo the second exam/interview for proper discernment to the vocation of the Ministerial Priesthood and 121 were finally chosen.
Be that as it may, the 121 successful candidates were invited to begin their training into the St. Paul's Seminary. Thus, on the 16th day of September 2023, the Pioneer Seminary, St. Paul's Seminary was fully realised by the resumption of the 121 historic boys for the first academic/formation year (2023/2024). Then, on the 24th day of September 2023, the 121 boys were clothed with the Seminary uniform as now minor Seminarians by Bishop Denis Chidi Isizoh who also presided the solemn inauguration of this academic/formation year the same day.
The formation of minor seminarians has a scrutinised program that helps their vocation to the Ministerial Priesthood. They live happily in their temporal site at Fr. Joseph's Hostel Aguleri as work goes on in their permanent site at Igbariam where the Seminary existed before in 1924.
